Direct Billing at Locus Health: How It Works

One of the most common questions we get from new patients is: "Do you direct bill?" The answer is yes — and we want to make the process as easy as possible for you.

Here's everything you need to know about using your extended health benefits at Locus Health Centre.

What Is Direct Billing?

Direct billing (also called assignment of benefits) means we submit your insurance claim on your behalf, directly to your insurer. Instead of you paying the full amount and waiting for reimbursement, we collect only your portion — the amount not covered by your plan — at the time of your appointment.

It saves you time, paperwork, and the hassle of fronting money you'll eventually get back.

Which Insurers Do We Direct Bill?

At Locus Health Centre, we direct bill most major extended health benefit providers in Canada, including:

  • Manulife
  • Sun Life
  • Pacific Blue Cross
  • Green Shield Canada (GSC)
  • Canada Life
  • Desjardins
  • Empire Life
  • Chambers of Commerce Group Insurance Plan
  • CINUP
  • Co-operators
  • Cowan Insurance Group
  • First Canadian
  • GroupSource
  • LiUNA!care
  • Manion
  • Maximum Benefit
  • Medavie Blue Cross
  • Alberta Blue Cross
  • NexgenRx
  • RWAM Insurance
  • SSQ Insurance
  • UV Insurance
  • And many more

We also direct bill ICBC for motor vehicle accident injuries.

If you're unsure whether we can bill your insurer directly, just call us at (604) 716-6073 or ask at your first appointment.

Which Services Are Covered?

Coverage varies by plan, but most extended health benefit plans in BC include some level of coverage for:

  • Registered Massage Therapy (RMT)
  • Physiotherapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Chiropractic Care
  • Kinesiology / Active Rehabilitation
  • Custom Orthotics

The amount covered, number of visits, and whether a doctor's referral is required all depend on your specific plan. We recommend checking your benefits booklet or calling your insurer before your first appointment.

How to Use Your Benefits at Locus Health

It's simple:

  1. Book your appointment — online at locushealth.janeapp.com or by phone
  2. Bring your insurance information — your plan number, member ID, and date of birth
  3. We submit the claim — directly to your insurer after your appointment
  4. You pay only your portion — the amount not covered by your plan (if any)

That's it. No forms to fill out, no receipts to mail in, no waiting for a cheque.

What If My Plan Doesn't Cover the Full Amount?

Most plans cover a percentage of the treatment cost (e.g., 80%) up to an annual maximum. You're responsible for the remaining portion (the co-payment) at the time of your visit.

For example, if your session costs $120 and your plan covers 80%, you'd pay $24 at the clinic and we'd bill your insurer for $96.

Important Notes About Direct Billing

Direct billing is offered as a privilege and is not guaranteed. A few things to keep in mind:

  • Confirm your coverage before your appointment — we can't guarantee what your plan will cover
  • Have your insurance card or information ready — we need your plan number and member ID to submit the claim
  • Annual maximums apply — once you've reached your plan's annual limit, you'll be responsible for the full cost
  • Some plans require a doctor's referral — check your plan details

If direct billing is unavailable for any reason, you'll pay the full amount and receive a receipt to submit to your insurer for reimbursement.
